Make it Monday #276

Hi everyone! Just a quick post for a challenge...

Happy Monday... if that's possible! :) One of things that I do look forward to at the start of each week is PTI's Make it Monday. This week's was fun and introduced me to a technique that I never would have dreamed up: colored pencils on kraft paper. At first when I watched the MIM #276 video from Melissa, I thought, "Aren't the pencils going to fade out on the paper?" But they don't - yay! It's actually a really nice way to make the colors pop against the brown tones of the paper.

So here's my take on this week's challenge:

I really LOVE the "What the Doodle" series from PTI and thought the feather would be a good way to incorporate a Papertrey product into the card. The details on this feather image are so beautifully designed, and it's great for coloring! Hope you like the final design, and have a great week!

Happy weekend! I'm spending some time catching up on cardmaking - it's been too long! Yesterday, I made one card that I'm entering into three (yes, three!) challenges. Love it when challenges come together. :)

This turned out very clean and simple. I did have a little bit of an urge to fill some of that white space, but I left it as is. I think the blue and pink colors work well for a friend expecting a new little one. Such an exciting time!

Make it Monday #241

Happy weekend! I received some new craft supplies in the mail yesterday - such a fun way to start the weekend - and I am trying some of them out for this week's Make it Monday #241 with Papertrey Ink.

Betsy Veldman is the lead this week. I absolutely LOVE her work. She has such an amazing design style, and the sets that she makes for PTI are so well-done. I was so happy to see her in the MIM video this week!

And here's my take on it:

I did something different this time and actually played along with Betsy as the video was playing. It was almost like attending a class with her as the instructor. I used to attend some card classes in the area, and they were so fun! This brought back some good memories, and I think I might do it again in the future.

The stamp sets, dies, and stencils from PTI were a DREAM to work with. So smooth and easy to stamp/cut out, and the stencils are so fun for making your own backgrounds. Don't be surprised if you see these products again soon here - they are quickly becoming favorite items of mine! :)

1 card for 2 challenges

I'm doubling-up today, entering one card for two challenges!

PTI's Make It Monday #238 includes a current design trend - ombre! The challenge was to incorporate ombre into a Valentine's card. Here's the video to check out for more info...

This worked very well with another challenge this week: Have A Heart over at Simon Says Stamp.

Here's what I came up with when I fused the two challenges together:

Can you see that ombre actually shows up in two different places on this card? The hearts change colors as you look down the card, as does the blending on the piece of paper behind the hearts.

I started out with the postage die cut and heart stamps. I've had that postage die cut for a little while now, and it's been sitting on my table as a reminder to try it out! Does anyone else do that with their craft supplies? Sometimes when I put supplies away all the time, I tend to always go back to my favorites. Keeping a stamp set, sentiment, paper, or die cut that I don't use as often on my desk reminds me to use it.

Valentine's Day is coming up... do you have your cards yet?

New Year, New Blog!

Happy 2016 :) I've decided to expand my stamping projects with a blog! I hope this will help me connect with more fellow stampers and also be a better place to share my cards. Welcome! Be sure to check back often for updates.

I started stamping and cardmaking after an invitation to a card class from a friend who owned a bookstore and offered the classes at her shop. Sad to say, the store has since closed (I'm still mourning!), but we continue our cardmaking discussions and time together. I am so glad to have a local friend to share this hobby with, along with so many design teams, bloggers, and social media pages that I find inspiration from!

So... for a first project to share with you all, I am participating in Papertrey Ink's weekly Make It Monday #235. I used markers instead of OMS or colored pencils to add additional color to the stamped images, but I think this still worked for the challenge!

This was a simple card to do! I actually loved the technique so much that I made several other cards so I'll have some ready for gift sets when needed.

I started with a white card and scored some lines on the bottom 2/3 of the card. They're hard to see in the photo, but they add some added texture and interest. Next, I drew large blobs of the purple and blue colors with markers. I used PTI stamp set "Make It Market Mini Kit: Garden Gild" for the flowers and leaves, along with PTI stamp set "Scripted" for the text. I also used Ranger inks blue ribbon, grape soda, and black tie. I stamped the flowers on top of the large color blobs and then fussy-cut them out. I stamped the text and leaves on the card first, then glued the flowers on top. I added a few small white gems for embellishments. That's it! The card took less than 10 minutes. So simple!

I think you could change the sentiment and colors to fit many different occasions, seasons, holidays, etc. It's so good to have such a versatile technique to have for any reason!
